Sports and post cards highlight January at the History Center

(December 16, 2013) – Blake Sebring of “The News-Sentinel” kicks off the New Year at the History Center with his January 5 George R. Mather Lecture on Fort Wayne Sports History. The lecture begins at 2 p.m. at the museum located at 302 East Berry. The lecture is free and open to the public.

What would a Fort Wayne Sports Hall of Fame look like? Sebring will answer that question and look at other facets of Fort Wayne Sports from the perspective of a sports reporter and city native who has covered the Komets for 23 seasons. Sebring has written a book about the city’s sports history, one of seven works he has published in his career. He will autograph copies of his latest book, which is for sale in the History Center’s gift shop.

On January 25, Winterval in downtown Fort Wayne, Randy Harter will be at the History Center at 2 p.m. to share his Fort Wayne postcard collection and autograph copies of his book “Postcard History Series: Fort Wayne (IN)”. Harter’s work is also available in the History Center gift shop.

  • “The President’s doomsday scenarios are of his own choosing,” Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., argued in response to Cutter’s email. “The sequester will cut 2.3 percent, or $85 billion, from the massive $3.55 trillion the federal government is projected to spend this year alone. To put that percentage in perspective, we borrow that much money every 28 days. If the President can’t cut that much, he’ll never cut anything.”

  • One thing we always check for when coming into a new city, is construction cranes on the horizon. Lack of cranes on a city's horizon suggests complacency and lack of progress or movement. To the cranes at Project Emerald Skyline, welcome back, old friends! Photo taken Friday, June 19, 2015, from the Lincoln Tower. #progress #cityonthemove
