I sat down with former Fort Wayne Mayor Paul Helmke on February 3, 2011 to talk about what his work with the Brady Center and Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and also his time as Mayor of Fort Wayne.

Helmke was in town to lecture at IPFW in their University Community Conversation series.  His lecture that evening was titled, “Tragedy in Tucson – Impact on Gun Legislation and the Accessibility of Elected Officials".

In this segment we talk about Helmke's time as Mayor of Fort Wayne, Indiana (1988-2000).  He talks about his annexation programs, downtown Fort Wayne, Harrison Square, Area Partnerships, community oriented government, Headwaters Park, the Allen County Courthouse Green and other downtown projects.

At 4:25, we talk about his feelings on the direction of things downtown.  In particular, he feels more people need to live downtown and needs to be the focus. Overall, he feels the City is on the right track.
